CAMERA CATCHES CROOK | | | A recent case demonstrates this edition of The inside Story tip of the month - "Don't trust anyone." A company, experiencing continuous thefts from the petty cash box in the bookkeeper's office, employed OF&A who decided to install a covert video surveillance camera. |
| After the installation of the camera, the money mysteriously balanced, and this continued for another two weeks. At this point, the client asked OF&A to remove the surveillance system, which they agreed to do the following evening.
| | To the company's horror, they discovered money missing from the petty cash box the next morning. However, the camera had captured the evidence and caught the crook - the live-in cleaner/caretaker, who the company trusted implicitly. Unbeknown to OF&A, the thief had been on leave during this period and had returned that day - short of cash from his holiday. Ockie Fourie, managing member of OF&A, comments, "The client was devastated to discover that the person they least suspected was stealing the money. A covert camera allows a company to get solid evidence without alerting suspect employees." |
